Comment: Post Office & Schoolhouse combined. Notice the U.S. Life-Saving Service Station lookout tower on the upper left. McMillan Township. First established on July 12, 1888 with W.L.M. Powell as its first postmaster. In 1895 the name was combined to one word Deerpark. Post Office discontinued operation on January 15, 1900; with mail service to Newberry. IMPORTANT HISTORICAL FACTS AT DEER PARK: In 1874, U.S. Life-Saving Service Station No. 12 (Sucker River) was established near the mouth of the Sucker River on Lake Superior when it was necessary to afford protection for the more cumbersome boats that plied the lakes at that time. Quinton Morgan was the first Keeper-In-Charge. In 1883 the name was changed to Muskallonge Lake Station, William Steele, Keeper-In-Charge. In 1902 it became Deer Park Station, with James McGaw, Keeper-In-Charge.
