Comment: Originally established as PITTSBURGH on July 7, 1788 with William Tilton as its first postmaster. Name changed to PITTSBURG on March 14, 1894); Name changed back to PITTSBURGH on August 12, 1911. IMPORTANT HISTORICAL FACTS: The Pittsburgh Post Office and Federal Quarters is located in the heart of the downtown triangle and business center, and is a monument to modern design in building construction. Construction began on this building in 1931, and on October 13, 1934, was open to the public. Architects: Trowbridge and Livingston.
