Comments: Originally established in CLATSOP COUNTY, OREGON TERRITORY on November 8, 1849 with Thomas Smith as its first postmaster. Changed to WASHINGTON COUNTY on September 3, 1849. Changed to MULTNOMAH COUNTY on December 22, 1854. Statehood on February 14, 1859. Building was constructed in 1918. Lewis P. Hobart, architect.
