Comments: Originally established as OPELLIKAN in RUSSELL COUNTY on November 14, 1839 with Wesley Williams as its first postmaster. OPELLIKAN, AL Post Office stayed with this name through the 1840s, then the post office changed its name to OPELIKA. Lee County was named after General Robert E. Lee.
