Comment: Established on March 25, 1857 with Richard Mason as its first postmaster. Discontinued operation and re-established with name changed to GENA on August 12, 1861 to May 7, 1866. Re-established and name changed back to MASONVILLE on April 12, 1872 to August 12, 1880. Discontinued operation and re-established on March 24, 1886 until it finally discontinued operation on March 31, 1958; with mail service to Rapid River, MI. This was the county seat from 1860-1864.
