Comments: L'Anse Township. Originally established as HOUGHTON #1 in HOUGHTON COUNTY on March 24, 1846 with Nicholas D. Meniotier as its first postmaster. Name changed to KEWEENAW BAY #1 in HOUGHTON COUNTY on November 2, 1846 with John H. Pitezel as postmaster. Name changed to L'ANCE in HOUGHTON COUNTY on February 16, 1865 with B. Newell Comfort as postmaster. Spelling changed to L'ANSE in HOUGHTON COUNTY in 1872. Changed to BARAGA COUNTY on February 19, 1875. Note the TV antenna atop the building and the vintage Mail Truck in back.
