Comments: Rockland Township. The first Rockland Post Office was established on January 6, 1853 with James B. Townsend as its first postmaster. It discontinued operation on September 20, 1860. The second Rockland Post Office was originally established as MINESOTA MINE on May 7, 1857 with William Peck as its first postmaster. Name changed to NATIONAL on March 16, 1861. On December 7, 1863 name was changed to ROCKLAND.
